Description
Aluminium HT (High Tension) Aerial Bunched Cables (ABC) are insulated overhead power lines used for medium-voltage electricity distribution, typically in 11kV and 33kV networks. They consist of multiple insulated aluminium phase conductors twisted around a high-strength central messenger wire that carries the mechanical tension of the bundle. Phase Conductors: Circular compacted stranded H68 aluminium (H4 grade), typically ranging from 35mm² to 400mm². Conductor Screen: An extruded layer of semi-conducting compound to smooth the electric field. Insulation: XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene), which is black for UV resistance and rated for a continuous operating temperature of 90°C. Insulation Screen: Comprising both a semi-conducting layer and a metallic screen (usually copper tape) to contain the electrical field. Messenger Wire: A high-tensile wire made of aluminium alloy (AAAC) or galvanized steel that supports the cable weight. Outer Sheath: A protective layer of extruded ST2 PVC or polyethylene, often printed with phase markings (1, 2, 3).
