Description

A Metalizing Thermal Spray Gun (often simply called a "Metalizing Gun") is a specialized industrial tool used to apply metallic coatings to surfaces for corrosion protection, wear resistance, or dimensional restoration. While "Thermal Spray" is the broad category, Metalizing specifically refers to the process of coating a substrate (usually steel or concrete) with metals like Zinc, Aluminum, or their alloys. The gun operates on a simple "Melt-Atomize-Impact" principle: Feeding: A metal feedstock (usually in wire or powder form) is fed into the gun. Melting: A heat source (either an Oxy-Fuel flame or an Electric Arc) melts the metal at the tip of the gun. Atomization: Compressed air is injected around the melting zone, breaking the liquid metal into tiny molten droplets. Deposition: These droplets are propelled at high speed onto a prepared surface, where they flatten and solidify instantly to form a "sandwich" of interlocking metallic layers. The most portable and traditional type. It uses a combination of oxygen and fuel gas (Acetylene, LPG, or Propane) to create a flame that melts the wire. Pros: Field-portable, requires no electricity (if using a gas-driven turbine), and very reliable. Best For: Applying zinc or aluminum for anti-corrosion on bridges or large tanks. This gun uses two metallic wires charged with opposing electric polarities. When the wires touch, they create an electric arc that melts them. Pros: High deposition rates (very fast), lower operating costs than gas, and creates a stronger bond. Best For: Large-scale industrial projects and coating internal diameters of pipes.
