Bed Type Milling Machine

Turret milling machines are composed of the stationary spindle and the table that is moved to the spindle axis in both parallel and perpendicular directions for cutting the workpiece. This particular type of machine offers different cutting methods using a quill.There are actually two distinct types of vertical milling machines: turret milling machines and bed milling machines. In a turret milling machine, the spindle and table can move perpendicular and parallel to the axis. In comparison, bed milling machines only move the table perpendicular to the axis.The vertical milling machine is a precision tool used for shaping and fabrication by the removal of stock typically from metallic work pieces. Plastics and other materials can also be machined on the mill depending upon tooling and material.Where as in a normal milling machine the spindle rotates on its axis and the cutters are held in it. Turret mills have a quill which lets the cutter move up and down like in a drill press.
