Description

A brass plate is a flat, rectangular-shaped alloy primarily composed of copper (60–70%) and zinc (30–40%). It is one of the most versatile metal forms, used across electrical, industrial, and decorative sectors due to its gold-like appearance and ease of fabrication. 1. Core Characteristics Aesthetic Appeal: Naturally bright, yellow-gold color that can be polished to a mirror finish or treated for an "antique" look. Corrosion Resistance: Highly resistant to rust and atmospheric corrosion (it forms a protective brown/green patina rather than structural rust). Workability: Excellent for cutting, drilling, and machining. It is softer than steel, which reduces tool wear. Conductivity: Offers good thermal and electrical conductivity, making it a standard for electrical grounding components. 2. Common Grades & What They Mean Grade NameBest For C260 Cartridge Brass Most common. Highly "formable"—best for bending, deep drawing, and making shells. C360 Free-Cutting Brass Contains ~3% lead. The "gold standard" for machining/CNC work; it chips cleanly rather than stringing. C464 Naval Brass Contains a bit of tin for extra protection against saltwater corrosion
