Solenoid Valve Coil

A solenoid valve coil is the electromagnetic part of a solenoid valve that converts electrical energy into magnetic force to operate the valve. In pneumatic systems, the coil is mounted on the valve body and controls the movement of the internal plunger or spool. For example, in valves made by Festo, the coil activates the valve to direct compressed air to different ports. Electrical power (AC or DC) is supplied to the coil. Current flows through the copper wire winding inside the coil. This creates a magnetic field. The magnetic force pulls a metal plunger/armature. The plunger movement opens or closes the valve, controlling air flow.
