Breather Air | Vent Plug 1. Material: Body: Plastic: Typically Polyamide (Nylon 6, 66), Offers good chemical resistance, lightweight, and cost-effective. Suitable for general industrial applications. Metal: Aluminum (anodized for corrosion resistance), Brass, Stainless Steel (303, 304, 316). Offers higher strength, temperature resistance, and durability. Ideal for demanding environments, high-pressure applications, or where chemical compatibility is critical. Filter Element: Polyurethane Foam: Common for general dust filtration. Sintered Bronze/Stainless Steel: Offers finer filtration, higher strength, and temperature resistance. Ideal for harsh environments or where very fine particulate exclusion is required. Paper/Synthetic Fiber: For specific filtration requirements, sometimes treated for water repellency. Seals/Gaskets: NBR (Buna-N), FKM (Viton), Silicone. Selection depends on temperature, chemical exposure, and compatibility with the fluid in the system. 2. Filtration Level (Micron Rating): Specifies the size of particles the filter element can effectively block. Common ratings range from 10 micron to 40 micron for general applications. Finer ratings (e.g., 2-5 micron) are available for highly sensitive systems. 3. Airflow Capacity: Measured in liters per minute (LPM) or cubic feet per minute (CFM) at a specific pressure drop. Crucial to ensure adequate airflow for system breathing (e.g., during fluid level changes, temperature fluctuations) without creating excessive vacuum or pressure. Should be matched to the maximum expected air volume displacement of the system. 4. Operating Temperature Range: Defines the minimum and maximum temperatures the breather can withstand without degradation of materials or performance. Typical ranges vary depending on materials, but often from -20°C to +100°C for plastic and -40°C to +150°C or higher for metal versions. 5. Mounting Thread Size and Type: Common thread types include: Metric: M10x1, M12x1.5, M16x1.5, M20x1.5, M27x2, etc. NPT (National Pipe Taper): 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", 1" BSPP (British Standard Parallel Pipe): G1/8, G1/4, G1/2, etc. Ensure compatibility with the system's port. 6. Pressure Relief Valve (Optional): Some breather vents incorporate a built-in pressure relief valve to release excess internal pressure (and sometimes vacuum) from the system, protecting seals and components. Cracking Pressure: The pressure at which the valve begins to open. Resealing Pressure: The pressure at which the valve closes. 7. Splash Guard/Rain Cap (Optional but Recommended): Protects the filter element from direct exposure to splashes, rain, or other contaminants, extending filter life and maintaining performance. 8.
