Chain Mortiser Machines

A chain with cutters (similar to a chainsaw chain) rotating within a frame clamped to the work is successively plunged into the workpiece to mortise out the required volume.When you pull down on the mortiser's feed lever, the bit and chisel plunge simultaneously into your workpiece. Like all drill bits, the auger bit bores a hole and ejects the chips. Meanwhile, the four sharp edges of the chisel pare the wood around the bored hole into a square shape.Mortise chisels are specialized chisels for chopping out a mortise. They are designed to withstand heavy blows with a mallet, and can be used for cutting directly across the grain, as well as for levering out waste material.Set the plunge depth on the router to cut the mortise to correct depth. Clamp the work piece in place and make the plunge cut. Start at one end of the mortise, and keeping the guide block pressed against the work piece, slide the router to the other end of the mortise. Use a chisel to square the ends if necessary.
