Unlike standard swabs, they are manufactured and packaged to minimize particle generation and prevent the introduction of contaminants like dust, lint, and residues. Key componentsCleanroom swabs have two main components that are chosen based on the application: Swab tip: The type of tip material dictates its absorbency, durability, and compatibility with different solvents. Common materials include: Foam: Made from polyurethane, foam tips are highly absorbent and compatible with many solvents, making them ideal for applying cleaning agents or removing residues. Some are chemically resistant for use with aggressive solvents like acetone. Polyester: Made from lint-free, continuous-filament polyester, these swabs produce very few particles. They are highly resistant to chemicals and suitable for precision cleaning in microelectronics manufacturing. Microfiber: Composed of fibers smaller than polyester, microfiber tips are excellent at trapping and removing microscopic particles. They are often used for cleaning sensitive optical surfaces. Cotton: Used in less critical cleanroom settings, cotton swabs are suitable for general-purpose cleaning, but they may generate more lint than synthetic alternatives.
