Description
Copper square bars are solid copper products with a square cross-section, primarily valued for their unparalleled electrical and thermal conductivity. Typically manufactured from high-purity copper, these bars are essential components in electrical distribution, power transmission, and industrial machinery.Key Technical Properties Conductivity: Pure copper square bars offer electrical conductivity of approximately 58 MS/m (100% IACS). Annealed variants can exceed 99.95% IACS, while half-hard tempers typically maintain above 97%. Material Grades: C11000 (ETP): Electrolytic Tough Pitch copper (99.90% min purity) is the most common grade for general purpose and electrical bus bars due to its balance of cost and performance. C10100 (OFE): Oxygen-Free Electronic copper (99.99% min purity) is used for ultra-high vacuum and high-frequency applications to prevent hydrogen embrittlement. Mechanical Strength: Tensile strength ranges from 210 to 370 MPa, with yield strength between 70 and 220 MPa depending on the temper. Hardened tempers (H04) are significantly stronger than soft annealed (O60) versions. Durability: Copper naturally resists corrosion by forming a protective oxide layer, making it suitable for marine environments and outdoor architectural use. Common Applications Electrical Engineering: Used extensively for bus bars, switchgear, transformers, grounding systems, and control panels. Mechanical & Industrial: Employed in heat exchangers due to high thermal conductivity, as well as in pumps, valves, and fasteners. Modern Technology: Critical in Renewable Energy (solar panels, wind turbines) and Electric Vehicles (battery wiring and charging stations). Architectural & Decorative: Selected for roofing, cladding, and ornamental designs due to its aesthetic appeal and the natural patina it develops over time. Standard Specifications: Most industrial bars are produced to meet ASTM B187 (for bus bars and general purposes), ASTM B124, and IS 613. Typical Sizes: Width/Side Length: Commonly available from 1/8 inch (4mm) up to 6 inches (150mm). Length: Standard lengths are usually 12 feet (3.66 meters), but can be supplied in custom lengths up to 6 meters.
