A Box Cricket Setup is a compact, fully enclosed sports arena designed for high-energy, fast-paced cricket. Unlike traditional open-field cricket, it is played within a "box" of high-quality netting, ensuring the ball never leaves the field of play. This setup is the primary choice for urban sports hubs, rooftop arenas, and indoor sports centers because it maximizes space and allows for continuous gameplay. 1. Physical Dimensions The size can vary based on available space, but professional and commercial setups generally follow these standards: Standard Arena Size: 60–100 ft (Length) x 30–60 ft (Width). Professional/Tournament Size: 100 ft x 50 ft. Small/Recreational Size: 60 ft x 30 ft. Net Height: 20–25 ft. High ceilings are crucial to allow for lofted shots without the ball constantly hitting the top net. Pitch Length: 16–20 meters (approx. 52–65 ft). While a standard cricket pitch is 22 yards, box cricket pitches are often slightly shorter to fit the enclosure. 2. Infrastructure & Components A high-quality setup consists of four main pillars: A. Flooring (The Turf) The most critical part of the setup. Multi-Sport Turf (15mm–25mm): Usually a shorter, denser pile (like the 25mm variety) is used to ensure a consistent ball bounce and easy player movement. Sub-Base: Typically a concrete or asphalt base, though some use a "GSB" (Granular Sub-Base) with rolling and compaction for better drainage in outdoor setups. B. The "Box" (Netting & Cage) Net Material: High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) or Nylon. Braided nets (2.5mm to 4mm thickness) are preferred for their impact resistance. The Cage: A heavy-duty steel frame (MS pipes) that supports the perimeter and roof nets. Padding: Foam or PVC padding is often wrapped around the steel poles to prevent player injuries during dives or collisions. C. Lighting (The Night Setup) Since box cricket is extremely popular for "night matches," lighting is essential. LED Floodlights: 4–8 high-intensity LED poles (150W–400W each).
