It is generally used for flatten the surface for smoother surface. It prepares the seedbed after primary tillage. It breaks the weeds on the field and mixes the wastes with the soil. It is a combination with spring hoes and revolving harrow. It does not turnover the soil and it does not break the deeper structure. Cultivators should be used for mixing soil that's already been broken up, such as when compost or fertilizer is added after tilling and before planting. Cultivators can also be used after planting to control weeds.
