Desiccant Dehumidifier

Desiccant dehumidifiers use a desiccant substance instead of a refrigerant and compressor to remove moisture from the air. A desiccant is a hygroscopic substance that is used to induce or sustain a state of dryness (desiccation) in its vicinity; it is the opposite of a humectant. Commonly encountered pre-packaged desiccants are solids that absorb water.Desiccant dehumidifiers remove water by natural absorption. They use an electrical heater to continuously regenerate the adsorbent material – i.e. they dry the absorbent material out so it can collect moisture again.Desiccants are drying agents that extract water from a wide range of materials. They are either soluble or insoluble substances that adsorb water due to their chemical properties. Examples include silica gel, bauxite, calcium sulfate and montmorillonite clay. Soluble agents include calcium chloride and glycerol.
