Description

For manual reticulocyte counts, whole blood is mixed with a supravital dye such as new methylene blue and blood smears are prepared. The dye causes clumping and staining of residual nucleic acid present in immature cells. The stained cells (reticulocytes) are counted as a percentage of total red blood cells. The normal reticulocyte count ranges between 0.5 % to 2.5% in adults and 2% to 6% in infants. A reticulocyte count is most often used to: Diagnose specific types of anemia (a condition in which your blood has a lower-than-normal amount of red blood cells) See if treatment for anemia is working. See if bone marrow is producing the right amount of red blood cells.-SYNTHESIS CHEMICAL LAB.
