Before we start, here is a small introduction about display counters- These are the commercial kitchen equipment usually placed at the entrance of restaurants where you can display your best dishes that are visually appealing food items.It entered Old French sometime in the 1300s as contoeur (from comptoir), and was used to describe the table where sales and banking occurred, where things were counted by a counter. The counter (person) used the counter (object) to count upon.Food on display means restaurant-type food that is visible to the customer before the customer makes a selection, so long as there is not an expectation of further preparation by the customer before consumption.A counter is a surface used for making transactions in a store or in a home kitchen for preparing food. In a store, you pay for items at the counter. When counter is a verb, it means "to speak up in opposition," like when you counter your opponent's argument in a debate.
