Description

A tamis (pronounced "tammy", also known as a drum sieve, or chalni in Indian cooking) is a kitchen utensil, shaped somewhat like a snare drum, that acts as a strainer, grater, or food mill. A tamis has a cylindrical edge, made of metal or wood, that supports a disc of fine metal, nylon, or horsehair mesh.By pre-cleaning, our drum sieve LAKA removes wood, corncobs, and other coarse objects from grain. It protects downstream equipment and is designed for terminals, ports, reception areas, and processing plants for grain, rice, and animal feed.We commonly refer to both colanders and sieves as “strainers,” although technically we use a colander to drain (discarding liquids like pasta water) and a sieve to strain (saving liquids like broth for stock).A sieve, often referred to as a “fine mesh” sieve is used for filtering or sifting small items that are relatively lightweight. The peas you've blanched? Use a fine mesh sieve to drain them, then set the sieve in ice water to stop their cooking.
