Deionization (DI) is a chemical purification process that removes dissolved ions, or electrically charged particles, from water. This is accomplished through a process known as ion exchange, which involves neutralising them with ions of the opposite polarity.It is a straightforward and low-cost water filtration method for producing highly purified water on demand for aquarium or hydroponic use. Deionization, abbreviated DI, is the process of removing all ionised minerals and salts (both organic and inorganic) from water through ion exchange. Deionization produces high purity water that is similar to distilled water because most non-particulate water impurities are dissolved salts, but deionization is much faster, less energy-intensive, and more cost-effective than distillation.
