The Heat Reflective Shields are designed to reflect radiant heat. The gold coating reflects Infrared energy away from the front surface of the material to reduce the amount of energy available to heat the plastic to the heat distortion temperature. The efficiency and density of the heat reflective surface is based on the heat reflection as compared to the the visible light transmittance value. The base material is polycarbonate and the heat distortion temperature of this material is 265 degrees Fahrenheit. The gold coated shields have been used successfully in applications of molten Titanium @ 2957 degrees Fahrenheit, 1625 degrees Centigrade. The gold coated shields are protected by a hard coat on the outside to prolong service life.
