The primary BIS standard for disposable sanitary napkins is IS 5405:2019, which specifies requirements for fit, leakage prevention, absorbency, hygiene, and biocompatibility to ensure user safety and health. For reusable sanitary products, IS 17514:2021 covers reusable pads and period panties. Compliance with these Indian Standards is now mandatory due to a Quality Control Order (QCO) issued by the Ministry of Textiles, requiring BIS certification for these products.
