Description

A GI (Galvanized Iron) Earthing Electrode is a grounding device made from high-quality mild steel pipes or rods that have been hot-dip galvanized with a protective zinc coating to prevent rust and corrosion. Its primary function is to provide a low-resistance path for fault currents, safely dissipating them into the earth to protect personnel and electrical equipment from shocks and surges. Material: Constructed from high-strength galvanized iron (GI). Corrosion Protection: The iron is coated with a layer of zinc, typically ranging from 80 to 250 microns, which significantly extends its service life (often up to 10–15 years or more) compared to standard iron rods. Advanced Technologies: Pipe-in-Pipe (PIP): Features a smaller GI pipe installed inside a larger one, with the hollow space pressure-filled with a crystalline conductive mixture to enhance current dissipation. Strip-in-Pipe: A GI strip is inserted and welded inside the pipe to increase surface area and conductivity. Perforated Design: Many electrodes feature holes along their length to allow moisture to enter, maintaining low earth resistance even in dry soil. Typical Specifications Diameter: Common sizes include 40mm, 50mm, 60mm, 80mm, and 100mm. Length: Standard lengths are 1 metre, 2 metres, and 3 metres. Compliance: Reliable models typically comply with IS:3043 (Indian Standard Code of Practice for Earthing) and IEC standard.
