Groundnut Decorticator

The act of stripping the hulls of the seeds is known as decorticating. Decorticators are also known as shell removers or skin separators. Groundnut Decorticators are an integral part of the oil mill plant and they are specially made to crack the outer shell of the groundnuts (peanuts).The groundnut pods are shelled between an oscillating sector and the fixed perforated concave screen. The decorticated shells and kernels fall down through the perforated concave sieve. The blower helps to separate the kernels from the husk and the kernel are collected through the spout at the bottom.The vertical mill decorticates the material to liberate the bast fiber from the inner hurd. The material is blown from the mill outlet via air to a settling box/horizontal aspiration chamber to remove it from the airstream and roughly separate the hurd from the fiber.A decorticator is a machine used for extraction of fiber from the skin, bark, or rind off nuts, wood, plant stalks etc. It is a semi-automatic machine used in the production of natural plant stem fiber extraction but it is expensive and not available in Ethiopia.
