Cold Heading Machine

Cold heading (or cold forming) is a method of forming metal in progressive steps into net shaped or near net shaped parts. Starting with a slug, which is cut from a continuous coil of wire material; the cold heading machine uses a series of powerful hammers and dies to form a part.Heading machines produce screws, semi-tubular and fully tubular rivets, bolts, special fasteners, and parts with very complex shapes starting from drawn wire in coils.Cold heading is basically a way of forming wire into a given shape without the need for heat. The process involves striking blows to a length of wire inserted in a die. The force of the blow or blows causes the metal to flow into a restricted die cavity.Cold heading quality wire involves a particular raw material chemistry to withstand swedging, heading and forming with great quality. It is suitable for fastener and cold heading applications such as bolts, nuts, screws, rivets, nails, etc.
