Air-cooled heat exchangers are second only to shell-and-tube exchangers in frequency of occurrence in chemical and petroleum processing operations. These units are used to cool and/or condense process streams with ambient air as the cooling medium rather than water.Heat exchangers are used in many engineering applications, such as refrigeration, heating and airconditioning systems, power plants, chemical processing systems, food processing systems, automobile radiators, and waste heat recovery units.In industrial situations, air to air heat exchangers are used in the process of waste heat recovery. The waste heat given off as a result of manufacturing or chemical processes can be redirected to use to heat incoming air to maintain a comfortable interior temperature.
