Plate Type Heat Exchanger

A plate exchanger consists of a series of parallel plates that are placed one above the other so as to allow the formation of a series of channels for fluids to flow between them. The space between two adjacent plates forms the channel in which the fluid flows.So the hot fluid will transfer some of it's thermal energy across and into the cooler fluid. The two fluids never meet or mix, they are always separated by the metal plate wall. The heat simply transfers through this. Therefore the hot fluid will cool down and the cold fluid will heat up.Plate and frame heat exchangers are made of corrugated plates on a frame. This design creates high turbulence and high wall shear stress, both of which lead to a high heat transfer coefficient and a high fouling resistance. Fluids travel within the heat exchanger.
