HVLS stands for “High-Volume, Low Speed,” and is used to describe the fact that these large fans move a high volume of air while spinning at a low rotational speed. More specifically, an HVLS fan is defined as any mechanical fan measuring more than seven feet in diameter.A high-volume low-speed fan is a type of mechanical fan greater than 7 feet in diameter. HVLS fans are generally ceiling fans although some are pole mounted. HVLS fans move slowly and distribute large amounts of air at low rotational speed– hence the name "high volume, low speed."
