Description
Industrial chimneys are commonly referred to as flue-gas stacks and are generally external structures, as opposed to those built into the wall of a building. They are generally located adjacent to a steam-generating boiler or industrial furnace and the gases are carried to them with ductwork.Industrial chimneys are vertical constructions created to reduce the impact of greenhouse gases and other industry substances on its immediate surroundings. These stonework (brick), concrete, or steel structures are used to eject gases generated by industries after completing their production processes.Chimneys operate based on the principle that hot air is less dense than cold air, and thus rises. When a chimney is filled with hot smoke or other gases, these gases rise up through the chimney. The hot, rising gas creates a pressure difference known as a draft which pulls combustion gases out of the building. In factories, chimneys are placed above furnaces to remove fumes, smoke, dust, etc. The air around the furnace becomes warmer and lighter. It rises up and moves out through the chimney. Dirty, smoky air from the rest of the factory rushes in to take that place. This air is also heated and escapes through the chimney.
