Description
Kilovolt-amperes (kVA) measures the apparent power of the diesel generator. The power factor (PF) is the ratio between real power and apparent power. For example, if a building consumes 1900 kW and 2000 kVA, the power factor is ~90%.Use the formula: P(KVA) = VA/1000 where P(KVA) is power in KVA, V is voltage and A is current in amperes. For example, if V is 120 volts and A is 10 amperes, P(KVA) = VA/1000 = (120)(10)/1000 = 1.2 KVA. Calculate power rating in KVA when you know voltage and output resistance kW is the amount of 'actual power' an electrical system has. This shows you how much power is being converted into useful, working output. kVA, on the other hand is the measure of 'apparent' power. If kW is how much power you can work with, kVA tells you how much is being used in the system overall. A kilovolt-ampere (kVA) is 1000 volt-amperes. Electrical power is measured in watts (W): The voltage times the current measured each instant. In a direct current system or for resistive loads, the wattage and VA measurements will be identical.
