Description
The fault voltage controls the PWM circuit so that a pulse signal with a certain pulse width arises. This impulse drives through the IGBT circuit the IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) of the main circuit. Then the welding current is through get the main circuit.IGBTs have a significant advantage over previous MOSFET systems, especially in high voltage, high current systems found in welding machines. So, inverter-based welders with IGBT technology are more durable than MOSFET-based inverter welders.IGBT has ability to handle very high voltage and high power. MOSFET is capable of handling only low to medium voltage and power. IGBT can only be used for relatively low frequencies, up to a few kHz. MOSFET can be used for very high frequency (of the order of MHz) applications. The most basic function of an IGBT is the fastest possible switching of electric currents, thus achieving the lowest possible switching losses. As the name “Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor” reveals, an IGBT is a bipolar transistor with an isolated gate structure; the gate itself is basically a MOSFET.
