Horton Sphere for Petrochemical Industry

The Horton sphere is a spherical pressure vessel, which is used for storage of compressed gases such as propane, liquefied petroleum gas or butane in a liquid gas stage.In an iconic engineering example of form following function, a sphere is the ideal shape for a vessel that resists internal pressure. In the first Port Arthur installation and up until about the component steel plates were riveted; thereafter, welding allowed for increased pressures and vessel sizes.Since then, we have designed and built thousands of spheres around the world, including liquid spheres up to 94 feet (28.6 m) in diameter and gas spheres up to 110 feet (33.5 m) in diameter.
