Mixed Beds are ion exchangers that have both Cation and Anion resins, mixed in a single vessel. The resin bed is in the both H-OH form. These units are normally designed so that they can be automatically operated, with all the necessary internals, instruments, components and controls.Mixed bed resins or mixed bed ion exchange resins are mainly used in the water purification industry for polishing process water to achieve demineralized water quality (such as after a reverse osmosis system). Mixed bed as the name states consists of strong acid cation exchange and strong base anion exchange resin.A mixed bed filter polishes demineralised water from, for example, an EDI plant. In this way we can ensure that the last minerals and salts are removed from the water. The filter contains a mixture of two resins that act as cation and anion exchangers (attracting positive and negative ions respectively).
