Power presses are metalworking machines used primarily to cut, punch, or form metal using tooling (dies) attached to the slide (ram) and bed. The slide has a controlled reciprocating motion toward and away from the bed surface and at right angles to it.Once the workpiece is positioned underneath the machine press's plate or die, the tool setter activates the machine press. Using hydraulic pressure, the machine press pushes the plate or die against the surface of the workpiece, which causes the workpiece's shape to deform.Mainly, Mechanical presses give high speed for production and Hydraulic press offer more flexibility and are used for the more complex forming processes.This large class of machines includes equipment used for forming metal parts by applying the following processes: shearing, blanking, forming, drawing, bending, forging, coining, upsetting, flanging, squeezing, and hammering.The types of manual press machines are hand press, ball press, and fly press. The main parts of the hand press machines are the frame, ram, nut and screw, iron ball, handle, guideway, punch, and die.Presses may be classified as manual driven, mechanical type or hydraulic and pneumatic type. The manual driven (hand operated) fly-presses are used for producing small components requiring simple piercing, blanking and similar operations. These are low capacity presses ranging from half ton to about 10 tons.
