It is primarily used as a methylating agent in organic synthesis, as a solvent in chemical reactions, and as a refrigerant. Methyl chloride is also utilized in the production of silicone polymers and in the manufacturing of various pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. However, its usage has decreased due to its classification as a hazardous air pollutant and its ozone-depleting properties.
