Air enters into oil stream at the time of unloading tank lorries,through a pump. Large quantaty of air can pass through the meter when a tanker becomes empty and the pump still runs. Under these conditions, the meter monitors quantity of air as well and, therefore, indicates excess readings which are erroneous. Air also enters into liquid through pump glands. The amount of air entering the liquid is related to the condition of pump. Enterant air in the liquid causes meter error as positive displacement flowmeter record quantity of air as well. Undersuch conditions also, it is essential to remove air from oil stream before it enters into the oil meter.
