Adhesive bonding is used to fasten two surfaces together and typically produces a smooth bond. This joining technique uses glues, epoxies, or various plastic agents to bond by curing the bonding agent with heat and pressure. Adhesive bonding is a process in which joining between two or more parts is accomplished by the solidification or hardening of a non-metallic adhesive material, placed between the faying surfaces of the parts (O'Brien, 1991, p. 839). The surfaces being joined are not melted, although they may be heated.
