Description
A passenger lift is a type of lift that is designed to take passengers up and down a vertical lift shaft. Cabin and shaft sizes can vary in a passenger lift, but they are usually completely enclosed. Possible lifting mechanisms for a passenger lift include pneumatic, traction and hydraulic lifting methods. There are core lifts, there are supplemental lifts, and there are ancillary lifts. A strength program needs to incorporate all three types of lifts to achieve balance and athleticism.Passenger elevators are, for the most part, slightly wider than they are deep. Service elevators, however, are much deeper than they are wide. Passenger elevators are designed to carry pedestrians while the service elevators are designed to carry hospital beds and stretchers.Passenger lifts are favoured where speed, traffic flow and capacity are prime considerations. Typically, platform lifts are most suited for applications in low rise buildings where people are likely to use the stairs or buildings not easily accessible for the disabled.Hydraulic lifts work on the principle: to rise up, a pump pushes oil into the cylinder, pushing the piston up (which pushes up the lift car). To go down, the valve opens and oil is allowed back into the reservoir, pushing it back using the gravitational force of the lift car
