Passenger Elevator

A modern-day elevator consists of a cab (also called a "cabin", "cage", "carriage" or "car") mounted on a platform within an enclosed space called a shaft or sometimes a "hoistway".There are two types of traction elevators: Gearless Traction and Geared Traction. Gearless traction elevators are the more advanced solution, with a wheel attached directly to the motor and counterweights are used to operate the hoisting system.A motor at the top of the shaft turns a sheave—essentially a pulley—that raises and lowers cables attached to the cab and a counterweight. Gears connect the motor and sheave in slower systems. Faster elevators are gearless; the sheave is coupled directly.
