Pencil Making Machine

The journey begins at a sawmill, where Incense-cedar logs are cut into lumber called “Pencil Stock” or “Pencil Squares”Chunks of graphite (a soft, dark mineral) and clay are placed inside a huge rotating drum. Large rocks inside the drum crush the graphite and clay into a fine powder. Then water is added, and the mixture is blended in the drum for up to three days.It is mainly used for artistic sketching and drawing, for stenography or notes. Its benefits are the simple usage as well as being able to remove what you've drawn with an eraser. What makes the pencil a writing utensil is based on the crystal structure of the graphite and a low Van der Waals force.Each individual slat goes through a machine called the Groover Machine (not to be confused with someone who can't stop dancing) that cuts — you guessed it — grooves into the surface of the wood. This preps the wood for graphite.
