A plate compactor is a popular piece of construction equipment used to compress various materials to create a solid subsurface or foundation. Plate compactors feature a heavy, flat plate at the base, attached to a motor or engine, and guide handles.Plate compactors are good for compacting granular soils such as gravel, sand, stone dust and 2A aggregates (sandy gravel). They can also be used on cobblestones and paving blocks.Sometimes referred to as a compactor, a tamper is a tool with a handle similar to a shovel's and a heavy, square base that is used for packing and leveling materials like dirt, sand, and rock.Generally speaking, a trash compactor functions with a large “ram” that compresses the trash down. The ram is a metal piece of that sits above the trash. The operator or user will load up the trash compactor with whatever applicable waste there is and once secured, will activate the ram and the compacting will begin.
