Variable frequency (often in a Variable Frequency Drive, or VFD) describes controlling an AC electric motor's speed by changing the frequency and voltage of the power supplied to it, allowing for precise speed adjustments, soft starts, improved efficiency, and better control for applications like pumps, fans, and conveyors, rather than running them at fixed full speed. A VFD converts fixed power to variable power, matching motor speed to demand, saving energy, and extending equipment life.
