Ride On Roller

The Ride On Roller is a heavy machine that presses asphalt, concrete and pavement until the surface is dense. A 10 HP Greaves engine drives it and the travel speed ranges from 0 to 4 km/h so the operator can move at the exact pace required. A 25-liter water tank sprays the drum to keep dust down plus to stop hot asphalt from sticking. The drum vibrates at 70 Hz - the particles beneath it settle tightly. Road crews use the roller to build new roads and to repair old ones because the compacted layer stays stable for years. The frame is thick steel and all joints are welded - the parts survive daily shocks, heat but also rain. The operator sits on a padded seat, steers with a wheel and drives forward or backward over uneven ground without leaving the platform.
