Water purifiers serve a similar function as water filters, as both remove impurities. However, water purifiers go a step further by killing biological contaminants and removing minerals from water. This is done via two methods of purification: Reverse osmosis First, the large internal surface area physically traps sediments and contaminants. Then, activated carbon acts like a magnet for compounds like lead and volatile organic compounds as water passes through. Finally, chemical reactions inside the filter reduce chemicals like chlorine on contact.Most common domestic filters contain granular activated carbon (GAC) which reduces unwanted tastes and odours by absorption. More expensive filters use carbon block elements which are generally more effective and usually carry a micron rating for particle removal.
