Rotogravure Printing Machine

Rotogravure (or gravure for short) is a type of intaglio printing process, which involves engraving the image onto an image carrier. The modern day rotogravure printing press uses a printing cylinder which has been laser engraved with minute cells capable of retaining ink, the size and pattern of which reflect the required image.In the photogravure or rotogravure (rotary photogravure) process, a negative image is etched into the surface of a copper printing cylinder in tiny cells and dots of various sizes and various depths. These constitute the type characters and artwork with its tonal gradations.Gravure printing is a widely used processing method often used to print large volumes of magazines and catalogues. Opposed to flexoprinting, the ink in gravure printing is transferred from carved micro cavities and not from a relief. These cavities, embedded in the printing cylinder, form the printing pattern.
