Description
A sand blast hopper (also called a sandblasting hopper or abrasive blasting pot) is a key component in sandblasting equipment. It is designed to store and control the flow of abrasive media (such as sand, grit, or glass beads) that is propelled by compressed air to clean, polish, or prepare surfaces.
Here’s a detailed description:
Sand Blast Hopper – Description
A sand blast hopper is a pressurized container used to feed abrasive material into a sandblasting gun or nozzle at a controlled rate. It is typically made of heavy-duty steel to withstand high pressure and abrasive wear.
Main Components:
Hopper Tank (Pressure Vessel): Stores the abrasive media. Usually made of carbon steel or stainless steel. Designed to handle air pressures ranging from 80 to 150 PSI. Inlet Valve: Connects the hopper to the air compressor. Controls the air supply entering the hopper. Abrasive Control Valve (Metering Valve): Regulates the flow of abrasive media from the hopper to the blasting hose. Blasting Hose and Nozzle: Carries the air-abrasive mixture and directs it to the work surface. Pressure Gauge and Safety Valve: Monitors internal pressure. Ensures safe operation by releasing excess pressure if necessary. Moisture Separator / Air Filter (optional): Removes moisture from the compressed air to prevent clogging and ensure smooth media flow.
Working Principle:
Compressed air enters the hopper and pressurizes it. The abrasive media is mixed with the air and forced through the hose to the nozzle, where it exits at high velocity. When this stream strikes the surface, it removes rust, paint, scale, or other contaminants, leaving a clean, roughened surface ready for coating or painting.
