Shearing Machines

The machine used is called a squaring shear, power shear, or guillotine. The machine may be foot powered, less commonly hand powered, or mechanically or hydraulically powered. It works by first clamping the material with a ram. A moving blade then comes down across a fixed blade to shear the material.Shearing, also known as die cutting, is a process that cuts stock without the formation of chips or the use of burning or melting. Strictly speaking, if the cutting blades are straight the process is called shearing; if the cutting blades are curved then they are shearing-type operations.Shearing occurs when forces try to make one part move in one direction and another part in the opposite direction - i.e. to slide past one another.The hydraulic shearing machine is a kind of machine that uses a reasonable blade gap to apply shearing force to metal plates of various thicknesses using a moving upper blade and a fixed lower blade so that the plates can be broken and separated according to the required size.Cutting processes are those in which a piece of sheet metal is separated by applying a great enough force to caused the material to fail. The most common cutting processes are performed by applying a shearing force, and are therefore sometimes referred to as shearing processes or metal shearing.
