Description

500 - 0.8d represents the lever arm in the bending moment formula: Moment of resistance, M = 0.87 fy Ast(d - 0.42xu) However, 500 - 0.8d is often used in simplified design charts or equations, where: 500 is an assumed constant (e.g. max bending moment in Nmm) d is the effective depth of the beam section in mm 0.8d relates to the depth of the neutral axis or lever arm approximation. Used in beam design to simplify moment capacity calculations. Based on Limit State Method as per IS 456:2000. Assumes Fe500 grade steel (hence the "500"). Provides simplified estimation of lever arm. Useful in quick sizing and checks for under-reinforced sections.
