Rubber Speed Breaker

Public health A traffic-calming device consisting of a 7–10-cm (3–4-inch) elevation on a road, which is made from plastic, rubber, asphalt or metal and designed to reduce the speed of vehicles passing over them to under 40 km/hour (25 miles/hour). Speed bumps (also called traffic thresholds, speed breakers or sleeping policemen) are the common name for a class of traffic calming devices that use vertical deflection to slow motor-vehicle traffic in order to improve safety conditions. Variations include the speed hump, speed cushion, and speed table.
