Flash drying is a stage in a process to make something bigger, in which a paste-like feed is broken up and dried at the same time. Flash drying is especially applicable to drying materials which require subsequent grinding. Flash dryers offer an effective method of removing surface or unbound moisture from a feed product. The technology behind flash drying employs a low residence time within the actual dryer; thus, the unbound moisture is "flashed" off the feed. Flash dryers are essentially pneumatic dryers.
