Flash drying is a stage in a process to make something bigger, in which a paste-like feed is broken up and dried at the same time. Flash drying is especially applicable to drying materials which require subsequent grinding.The principle of flash drying is to evaporate surface moisture instantaneously. Wet particulate material is entrained in hot gas or steam flowing through an insulated duct. The particles are dried and the gas or steam temperature decreases (Saastamoinen 1992). In most systems, air is used as the gas.
