Description
A Steam Hose Pipe is a specialized, heavy-duty industrial hose designed to safely transport saturated and superheated steam. Unlike standard water hoses, steam hoses are engineered to withstand the extreme "triad of destruction": high temperature, high pressure, and the risk of internal expansion (popcorning).
To manage the volatility of steam, these hoses follow a strict three-layer architecture:
Inner Tube: Almost exclusively made of EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) or Chlorobutyl rubber. These materials resist hydrolysis (breakdown by water/steam) and heat aging. Reinforcement: Typically consists of one or two layers of high-tensile braided steel wire. This provides the structural integrity to prevent the hose from bursting under high pressure. Outer Cover: Usually a red or black EPDM synthetic rubber. It is pin-pricked (tiny holes) to allow trapped gases to escape, preventing blisters or "bubbles" on the surface.

One of the unique risks with steam hoses is popcorning. When a hose cools down after use, trapped steam condenses into water and is absorbed by the porous rubber tube. When the hose is reheated, this water instantly expands back into steam, tearing the inner lining and creating damage that looks like the surface of popcorn.

Monitor for "Hardening": If the hose feels stiff or "cracks" when bent, the rubber has heat-aged and must be replaced immediately. Avoid Kinking: A kink creates a localized "hot spot" that can weaken the steel reinforcement and cause a catastrophic burst.
