Tensile Facades

A tensile facade is a type of tension fabric structure. This general term refers to a form of construction that utilizes cables and structural steel support members to tension fabric and other materials in order to create a structure, canopy, or covering.Tensile fabric structures are characterised by the tensioning of a membrane system, typically with wire or cable. Using tension throughout structure provides the membrane with critical structural support. Tensile architecture is the most common form of thin-shell structures.Tensile architecture is a structural system that predominantly uses tension instead of compression. Tensile and tension are often used interchangeably. Other names include tension membrane architecture, fabric architecture, tension structures, and lightweight tension structures.
