Tensile Structure

A tensile structure is a construction of elements carrying only tension and no compression or bending.Common example of these structure is cable suspended bridges. The main pillars acts as compression members, but the whole load is carried out by the cables which are in tension.When the material is under tension, it is known as tensile. The forces that are acting along the axis of force are responsible for the stretching of the material. The external force per unit area of the material resulting in the stretch of the material is known as tensile stress.Tensile structures are used to cover large areas and long spaces. These tensile structures remain stable under tension, and no compression. It creates a visual focus of attention and used as roofing for walkways at the airport, outdoor dining canopies, sports facilities, storage buildings, warehousing, etc.
